What is the cutoff for each body?
| Body | Cutoff rule |
|---|---|
| US Youth Soccer | From 2026–27, US Youth Soccer groups players born from 1 August through 31 July; the U number is their age on 31 July at the end of the season. Source |
| AYSO | From fall 2026, AYSO uses August–July birth-date windows, grouped into the divisions on its age chart. Source |
| The FA | The FA uses age on 31 August at the start of the season: age 9 means Under 10, with Under 7 also open to children once they turn 6 during that season. Source |
| Canada Soccer | Canada Soccer uses the start-of-year age boundary: the birth-year band is the year of play minus the birth year, with divisions set by the competition. Source |
How does US Youth Soccer work out age groups?
US Youth Soccer uses an August-to-July birth-date window from 2026–27. A child born from 1 August 2016 through 31 July 2017 is U10 in 2026–27. Choose US Youth Soccer for its league and Cup competitions.
How does AYSO work out age groups?
AYSO uses its fall 2026 age chart. For example, 10U covers births from 1 August 2016 through 31 July 2018 in 2026–27. The chart lists 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, 18U and 19U; your region chooses which divisions it offers.
How does England's FA work out age groups?
Take your child’s age on 31 August at the start of the season and add one. A child aged 9 on 31 August 2026 is Under 10 for 2026–27. Children who turn 6 during the season can join Under 7 once they reach their sixth birthday.
How does Canada Soccer work out age groups?
Subtract the birth year from the year of play to find the birth-year band. A child born in 2016 is in the U10 band in 2026. Canada Soccer’s age-division rules refer to the start of the year; the competition sets the divisions offered.
FAQ
Did US youth soccer age groups change in 2026?
Yes. US Youth Soccer and AYSO moved to August–July birth-date windows for 2026–27. U.S. Soccer lets its member organisations choose their cycle, so select the body your league belongs to.
Does my child move up on their birthday?
The age group stays with the selected season. A birthday during the season does not change the cutoff calculation.
Can I check next season?
Yes. Choose the next season in the selector. The calculator applies the published cutoff rule to that season’s dates.
Is the date of birth saved?
The web calculator uses the date in your browser. It is not saved in a link or an account.
